Here’s what a youth behavioral assessment can tell us

Have you ever wondered what causes certain behaviors in your child or teen? From aggression and outbursts to dangerous activities like self-harm or sexual promiscuity, there’s usually a root cause for these activities.

From unraveling patterns of emotions to decoding social interactions, a youth behavioral assessment offers a nuanced glimpse into the inner workings of adolescents and teenagers. Here’s what this assessment entails and how we use it to deliver professional help.

What Is a Youth Behavioral Assessment?

A youth behavioral assessment is a comprehensive evaluation that helps identify and understand a young person's emotional, social, and psychological well-being.

The assessment examines things like communication skills, coping mechanisms, and interactions with others to learn more about their strengths and challenges. Common assessment tools include:

How We Use Youth Behavioral Assessments

Hallmark Youthcare uses youth behavioral assessments to address specific concerns, such as suicidal thoughts, sexual aggression, self-harm, and other risky behaviors. These assessments may include clinical interviews with the patient and their families, psychological testing and psychiatric evaluations, and a review of health and behavioral histories so we can accurately diagnose each patient based on holistic information. Behavioral assessments not only establish a baseline upon admission, but are also valuable tools for measuring progress every 90 days.

Behavioral assessments are one tool we use in our comprehensive approach to adolescent behavioral health. In addition to the assessment, a Board Certified Psychiatrist conducts a clinical evaluation to gain a deeper understanding of each patient and develop a custom care plan. The clinical evaluation may cover the following:

  • Health and developmental history
  • Educational history and assessment
  • Family and social history
  • Substance use history
  • Previous or current legal issues

Our behavioral assessment and diagnostic tools can shape interventions and lead to a brighter future for teens and their families. Reach out to our team to learn more about our evidence-based approach.
