Hallmark Youthcare was founded in 1976. Originally called Psychiatric Institute of Richmond, located in the Highland Park area of Richmond, it was a Treatment Center/Special Education Program serving children, adolescents, and adult patients. In 1992, the residential program expanded to 50 beds and moved to its current setting in Goochland County, Virginia. Purchased by Hallmark Systems in April 1995, Hallmark Youthcare expanded to 84 beds and focused solely on adolescent residential treatment and assessment and diagnostic services

Hallmark Founded Is Founded In 1976

Originally called Psychiatric Institute of Richmond, located in the Highland Park area of Richmond, it was a Treatment Center/Special Education Program serving children, adolescents, and adult patients.

Program Expanded To 50 Beds

In 1992, the residential program expanded to 50 beds and moved to its current setting in Goochland County, Virginia.

Purchased by Hallmark Systems

Hallmark Youthcare expanded to 84 beds and focused solely on adolescent residential treatment and assessment and diagnostic services
1995

Hallmark Youthcare opened a residential program

This program is called the TSAY Program (Treatment for Sexually Acting Out Youth) and is licensed by the Department of Behavioral Health. This program has consistently been one of the most popular services our organization offers.
2009

Transitioned out of community-based services

Hallmark Youthcare opened a program dedicated to the treatment of victims of human trafficking called our TEC Program (Treatment for Exploited Children) and worked with state leaders to develop a curriculum that would support the specific clinical and safety needs of this population.
2014

Obtained our ARTS Certification

Through the process of obtaining our ARTS Certification in 2018 and developing an ASAM approved substance abuse program, Hallmark Youthcare opened a two-unit program specifically dedicated to the treatment of Substance Abuse and Substance Use Disorders in early 2019.

The Sanctuary Model

All programs at Hallmark Youthcare use the Sanctuary Model. The Sanctuary Model® represents a theory-based, trauma-informed, trauma-responsive, evidence-supported, whole culture approach that has a clear and structured methodology for creating or changing an organizational culture. The model works to provide a safe, supportive, secure and therapeutic environment to promote healing while building on the strengths of each child.
Safety: attaining safety in self, relationships, and environment
Emotional management: identifying levels of various emotions and modulating emotion in response to memories, persons, events
Loss: feeling grief and dealing with personal losses and recognizing that all change involves loss
Future: trying out new roles, ways of relating and behaving as a “survivor” to ensure personal safety and help others
