Celebrating World Teen Mental Wellness Day

March 28, 2024

It’s time to talk about and tackle the stigma about adolescent mental health

March 2 is World Teen Mental Wellness Day, and as an adolescent behavioral health center, we’re committed to overcoming the stigma of mental health so teens can live their best lives.

To do this, we’re exploring the misconceptions and societal roadblocks surrounding mental health, and we hope you’ll join us in sharing the message.

Misconceptions about Teen Mental Health

Teens may be more likely to talk about their mental health struggles when others “get” them, and it starts with understanding the truth about how these struggles manifest.

  • Myth: It’s “just a phase.” In reality, many teens experience serious mental health issues that require professional help and support. These struggles can lead to patterns that are easy to repeat but hard to break the longer they go unnoticed.
  • Myth: Only severe mental health disorders need to be addressed. Early intervention can prevent issues from escalating.
  • Myth: Seeking help is a sign of weakness. This stigma can prevent teens from asking for help.

De-stigmatizing teen mental health is the greatest gift we can give to the next generation.
