Family Engagement
Working together to help your child
Having family and community support is vital to the success of the youth in our program. Knowing they have people who care about them and support their journey through treatment is the key to providing youth with hope for the future. While it is important to have family play a part in the development of treatment goals, participate in monthly treatment planning meetings, and be involved in weekly family therapy it is also necessary for them to engage in day to day activities with their child.
Because Hallmark knows how essential family involvement is we offer numerous opportunities for family members to communicate with and participate in these activities. Youth are encouraged to make and receive daily phone calls. Once a child has reached a stage in treatment where it is appropriate for them to be in the community home passes are scheduled for the child and their family to work on therapeutic family goals. Visitation times are scheduled for Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays but is offered on other occasions when coordinated with the child’s individual therapist.
Engagement activities are offered for families to participate in when visiting. It is during these times that family members have an opportunity to learn and practice some of the same strategies that youth are learning to improve communication skills, gain knowledge on emotional regulation, and engage in fun leisure activities that promote laughter and the development of positive memories.
Our Activity Therapy Department coordinates birthday celebrations for residents and their family members, provides a bi-monthly family outing, and plans special activities on major holidays. Participation in these activities are fun but it also provides some normalcy for the child and their families even when they are away from home. A monthly calendar is created and distributed so family members can plan to attend these special activities.
Hallmark’s goal is to have family engagement help support and bridge the gap between residential treatment and the youth’s return to the community.
We always have fun things planned like:
- National Popcorn Day!
- Cinco de Mayo celebrating Walking Taco’s!
- Recognizing our Armed Forces Family and Friends!
- M & M’s for Moms!
- Family Cook Outs!
- Christmas Dinners!
