Therapeutic Mentoring
Hallmark Youthcare implements a model of mentoring that applies best practice with proven success. This model description includes the definition of a mentoring relationship, mentoring model, matching and monitoring mentors, support, supervision, and retention of mentors.
Mentoring is defined as a nurturing process whereby an adult, serving as a role model, teaches, encourages, sponsors, counsels, and befriends a youth for the purpose of promoting social and personal development. The mentor, helps provide an environment for growth, considers the total personality of the person being nurtured in deciding how best to be helpful, and operates with a belief that the person being nurtured has the capacity to develop into fuller maturity. Closely related to the nurturing process is the act of serving as a role model. Mentors provide youths with a sense of who they are becoming. |
