Therapeutic Day Support

Therapeutic Day Support Services are comprehensive, school-based mental health treatment services designed to support children/youth residing in the least restrictive environment. Service provision is tailored to meet the individual needs of each child/youth, with services, frequency and duration of services based on these identified needs. The Therapeutic Day Support Services are designed to accommodate and treat children and youth with a variety of emotional, behavioral, and cognitive disorders. Typically these children/youth will:

  1. Have difficulty in establishing or maintaining normal interpersonal relationships to such a degree that they are at risk of hospitalization or out-of-home placement because of conflicts with family or community.
  2. Exhibit such inappropriate behavior that repeated interventions by the mental health, social services, or judicial system are necessary.
  3. Exhibit difficulty in cognitive ability such that they are unable to recognize personal danger or recognize significantly inappropriate social behavior.

Goal
The paramount goal of Therapeutic Day Support Services is to enable children/youth to develop the skills necessary to succeed in the school setting and the community.

Individual therapy will be provided to help the child/youth gain a dynamic understanding of emotional and/or behavioral problems that have led to their difficulties. All service interventions are strength based and geared towards developing self-awareness; and the adoption of coping strategies that promote self-reliance, personal responsibility, and problem solving skills. Positive Behavior Support is a broad range of systemic and individualized strategies for achieving important social and learning outcomes while preventing problem behaviors.

Therapeutic groups will be utilized to address a variety of issues and thereby improve the skills and abilities of every child/youth. Effective and positive communication skills, social skills, anger and conflict management, problem solving, and self-esteem are some of the areas that will be addressed.
